The September 23 Deadline Is Closer Than You Think

Every Irish company with a December 31 accounting year-end has a corporation tax return due on September 23, 2026. That is your CT1 form, your iXBRL-tagged financial statements and your corporation tax computation – all submitted to Revenue online before midnight.

Miss it by a single day and a surcharge begins. Miss it by more than two months and that surcharge doubles.

Irish corporation tax is one of the most competitive business tax rates in Europe at 12.5% for trading income. But the low rate means nothing if your return is late, incorrectly tagged or rejected by Revenue. The cost of getting it wrong is the same regardless of your tax rate.

DataTracks has supported thousands of companies across Ireland and the UK with corporation tax filing, iXBRL tagging and regulatory reporting. If your CT1 form is not yet filed, we can help you close it before September 23.

What Irish Companies Get Wrong Every Year

Filing a CT1 return in Ireland is not as simple as submitting a form. Revenue requires iXBRL-tagged financial statements alongside the CT1 return for companies above the filing threshold. The iXBRL tags must map to the correct taxonomy concepts, not just pass the Revenue validation check.

Common challenges Irish companies face every year include:

  • CT1 form not started with less than four weeks to the corporation tax filing deadline in Ireland
  • iXBRL conversion not completed or tagged to the wrong taxonomy version
  • Revenue validation errors blocking submission at the final step
  • Financial statements not aligned with the CT1 tax computation figures
  • Last-minute changes from auditors or finance teams requiring a full re-tag
  • Limited internal resources during peak filing season across multiple entities
  • No iXBRL viewer available to check the tagged output before submission
  • Uncertainty about which iXBRL requirements apply to your company size and accounting standard

DataTracks removes every one of these blockers. We prepare your iXBRL-tagged financial statements, validate them against the Revenue taxonomy and deliver a submission-ready output before your deadline.

What Is the CT1 Form and Who Needs to File It?

The CT1 form is the corporation tax return that every Irish company subject to corporation tax must file annually with Revenue. It covers trading income, chargeable gains, capital allowances, loss reliefs and the final corporation tax liability for the accounting period.

For companies with a December 31 year-end, the Ireland corporate tax return due date is September 23 of the following year. This is a firm statutory deadline under the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997. There is no automatic extension.

Business tax in Ireland applies to all companies registered in the Republic of Ireland and to foreign companies trading through a branch or agency here. The standard rate of corporation tax Ireland applies at 12.5% on trading income and 25% on non-trading income. From January 1, 2024, an additional 15% minimum effective tax rate applies to companies in groups with global revenues above EUR 750 million under Pillar Two rules.

Whether you are a small Irish company filing your first CT1 form, a large multinational managing company taxes in Ireland alongside group obligations, or an accounting firm handling corporation tax return Ireland filings for multiple clients – DataTracks handles the full process.

What DataTracks Delivers for Your CT1 Filing

CT1 Form Preparation and Review We review your financial statements, tax computations and prior year returns to prepare your CT1 form for submission. All figures are cross-checked before the return is filed to Revenue.

iXBRL Tagging to Revenue Taxonomy Revenue requires iXBRL-tagged financial statements with every CT1 return above the filing threshold. DataTracks tags your accounts to the current Revenue taxonomy, checks every concept against the correct accounting standard and delivers a validated iXBRL file ready for submission. No wrong taxonomy versions. No concept mismatches. No EPS scaling errors.

iXBRL Validation Before Submission Every iXBRL file we produce is pre-validated before it reaches the Revenue online system. Validation errors caught at the gateway delay your filing and put you at risk of a late filing surcharge. DataTracks catches every error before submission.

iXBRL Viewer We provide an iXBRL viewer with every tagged output so your finance team or auditors can review the tagged data before the file goes to Revenue. What you see in the viewer is exactly what Revenue receives.

Revenue Submission Support We support your team through the Revenue submission process. If you are managing the submission yourself, we provide the filing-ready iXBRL file and CT1 output. If you need end-to-end support, we manage the submission for you.

Compliance Advisory Unsure whether your company is above the iXBRL filing threshold? Not certain whether your accounting standard requires FRS 102 or IFRS tagging? Our specialists advise on the specific requirements that apply to your company before we begin.

The CT1 Surcharge You Cannot Afford

Late filing of an Irish corporation tax return does not attract a fixed penalty. It attracts a surcharge calculated directly on your tax liability.

File between one day and two months late and Revenue applies a 5% surcharge on your corporation tax liability, capped at EUR 12,695.

File more than two months late and that surcharge doubles to 10%, capped at EUR 63,485.

On a tax liability of EUR 500,000, a two-month delay costs EUR 25,000. A delay beyond two months costs EUR 50,000.

These are not recoverable. There is no appeal process for a surcharge that arises solely because the return was late.

DataTracks files your CT1 return before September 23. The surcharge does not apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CT1 form? The CT1 form is the annual corporation tax return that every Irish company subject to corporation tax must file with Revenue. It reports the company’s income, gains, reliefs and the final corporation tax liability for the accounting period. For companies with December 31 year-ends, the CT1 form must be filed by September 23 of the following year.

What is the corporation tax filing deadline in Ireland? For companies with a December 31, 2025 accounting year-end, the corporation tax filing deadline in Ireland is September 23, 2026. This is the date by which the CT1 form, iXBRL-tagged financial statements and any corporation tax payment must all reach Revenue.

What is the corporation tax rate in Ireland? Irish corporation tax applies at 12.5% on trading income and 25% on non-trading income. From January 1, 2024, a 15% minimum effective tax rate applies to companies in groups with global revenues above EUR 750 million under Pillar Two rules.

What is iXBRL tagging and does my company need it? iXBRL stands for inline eXtensible Business Reporting Language. Revenue requires iXBRL-tagged financial statements to be filed alongside the CT1 return for companies above the mandatory iXBRL filing threshold. The tags embed machine-readable data into your financial statements so Revenue’s systems can analyse the figures. DataTracks advises on whether your company is above the threshold and handles the full tagging process.

What happens if I file my CT1 form late? Late filing of an Irish corporation tax return triggers a surcharge on your tax liability. The surcharge is 5% if the return is filed within two months of the deadline, capped at EUR 12,695. If the return is filed more than two months late, the surcharge rises to 10%, capped at EUR 63,485. There is no appeal process for a surcharge that arises solely from late filing.
